    The dictionary defines pristine as fresh and clean as or as if new. Perhaps I should have said closer to pristine, semantics versus colloquial (characteristic of familiar and informal conversation).

    @GenetheMac #7, please define “pristine”.

    I voted no, but then realized this paradise is lost already anyway.

    There already is an airport nearby in Surat Thani. A quick ferry takes you there and the island stays pristine.

    I have to agree with most of what's said here. It is too small for an airport and environmentally it would be disastrous in what it would involve and what it would lead to. I don't want to stop the Full Moon Party's, where the majority of visitors are having fun and not harming others. However, they do need to clean up their act and ensure that everybody has the right kind of Thai hospitality.

    Just where the hell are they going to build an airport?
    I have been there years ago, rented a motorbike and traveled the entire island. There isn't a flat piece of ground long enough to land a 4 passenger plane and NO roads to speak of. LOL Leave it to the crazy ferry speed boats to take the soon to be drunk passengers over from Samui. That is the safest and cheapest way (and it works today).

    Is there anybody left who would visit Koh Phangan for a quiet holiday? As far as I know the idea on that island is to have full moon party all night and day. Most visitors would probably not even hear the noise of the planes anymore.

    with all of these domestic airports cropping up within Thailand, one would question, is the high speed rail system now
    necessary?
    I would imagine if you constructed an airport in Pattaya or use Utapao and built local airports at other local destinations, this might just be much more practical and economical then building a new rail system.

    Koh Phangan - an airport?
    It's hardly big enough.
    But then, a nice island "touristified" and some money is made.
    Progress Thai style
