It is a time of grief as the nation mourns the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej last Thursday. Since last week, thousands of Thais have flocked daily, braving the scorching sun or heavy rain, to pay their respects before a portrait of His Majesty the King at the Sala Sahathai Samakhom Pavilion inside the Grand Palace, while His Majesty is lying in state at the Dusit Maha Prasart Throne Hall.

As more people are expected to make the trip there, especially when members of the public will be allowed to pay their respects in front of his royal urn inside the Grand Palace's Dusit Maha Prasart Throne Hall from Oct 28, we have come up with various different transportation routes for you to get there.

MRT: Hua Lamphong station and take bus number 25 or 53.

BTS: Exit BTS Saphan Taksin and take Chao Phraya Express Boat at Sathorn pier; Exit BTS National Stadium and take bus number 15, 47 or 508; Exit BTS Siam and take bus number 15, 25 or 508; Exit BTS Victory Monument and take bus number 59 or 5.

Public buses which pass the Grand Palace or the area are: 1, 3, 9, 15, 25, 30, 32, 33, 43, 44, 47, 53, 59, 64, 80, 82, 91, 203, 503, 508, 512.

Additional services:

Mobile phone operator AIS is providing a free shuttle bus service from 6am-9pm to the Grand Palace from the following spots: Mo Chit bus terminal, Ekamai bus terminal, the Southern bus terminal and Hua Lamphong station.

The Royal Thai Army is providing a free shuttle bus from 8am-4pm on two routes. First: Thung Si Kan, Don Muang--Vibhavadi Rangsit Road--Din Daeng district--Victory Monument--Sanam Luang. Second: Thung Si Kan, Don Muang--Tiwanon intersection--Bang Pho district--Sanam Luang. For details of the pick-up spots, call 02-575-0839 or 02-572-1379.

The Royal Thai Navy is providing a free boat service between Sathorn pier and Tha Chang pier from 7-8am and back at 5pm and 6pm. They are also providing a free shuttle bus, 9am-8pm, from three routes to Sanam Luang, from Somdet Phra Pinklao Hospital, Pata Pinklao and from Nang Lerng.
