The government should stop worrying about former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's appointment as Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen's personal economic advisor, Thaksin's legal advisor Noppadon Pattama said on Thursday.

Mr Noppadon said Thaksin told him that he was honoured and happy to give economic advices.

He said there were many countries, besides Cambodia, that invited and appointed Thaksin as their advisor.

"The government should not be concerned or scared because this is not a political issue or about seeking asylum," the former foreign minister said.

Prime Minister Hun Sen decided to appoint Thaksin because he saw his value and capability. Mr Hun Sen can consider not sending Thaksin back to Thailand even if the Thai government planned to use the extradion treaty, he said.

"Prime Minister Hun Sen does not like the way the ruling Democrat government is working but the Thai-Cambodian relations are close as usual."

Mr Noppadon said he believed his boss would not use his relationship with Cambodia to pressure Thailand.

Thaksin will have a videoconference with Prime Minister Hun Sen soon, he said.
