CHON BURI : A three-year-old girl who was reported missing from her home in Samut Prakan province early this month has been found by an alert family in Chon Buri 60km away where she was made to beg for money.
At about 9pm on Tuesday, the Muang district police station in Chon Buri was alerted by a couple and their daughter that they had found Sirinthip Sam-ang, or Nong Phomphaem.
Wara Phanprasert said he, his wife Inthong and their daughter, Thanyawan were having dinner at a restaurant when Ms Thanyawan spotted the girl who was being taken to beg for money by a woman.
He said his daughter told him that the girl looked very much like the one whose picture had appeared in newspapers. She had been reported missing from her home in Samut Prakan.
The family walked up to the woman and asked her about the girl. The woman insisted she was her biological daughter.
The family asked the little girl if the woman was her mother. The girl, who looked scruffy and tired, said "yes".
Mr Wara said the woman told him she had the girl's birth certificate, though not with her.
Mr Wara said he and his family were suspicious and decided to follow the girl and the woman for awhile. They then alerted the police.
The family lost sight of the girl and the woman, but spotted the two later accompanied by a man.
The family asked the man if the girl was his daughter. The man replied the girl had been taken from a temple and he had adopted her.
Mr Wara said the man asked to go to the toilet but the family demanded he leave the girl with them. The man and woman then left the area and they did not see them again.
The family took the girl to the police station where officers contacted her parents in Samut Prakan. The parents travelled to the police station to be reunited with their daughter.
Several bruises were found on the girl's body. She said the bruises were sustained from being pinched and hit by the man and woman who forced her to lie down and beg for money on a footbridge.
She had not been given anything to eat for the whole day before she was rescued on Tuesday night.
