Casino did exist, police say
Rak Thailand Party list MP Chuvit Kamolvisit continued his one-man campaign to expose illegal gambling casinos in Bangkok over the weekend.
He showed why police had been unable to find the casino in the Sutthisan area he had revealed in parliament last week.
Police were too slow to take action, he said, allowing the owners to remove all evidence. To prove his allegation, he played a video which he said showed gambling equipment being moved out of the gambling den.
He said yesterday this was the last time he would disclose information about this particular casino, as he found it unacceptable that the police had waited for three days before starting their search.
Yesterday, the Royal Thai Police's panel probing the alleged illegal casino supported Mr Chuvit’s claims.
Pol Gen Sathaphon Laothong, who is leading the panel, said yesterday the panel believed the casino had existed but had been stealthily dismantled since it was identified by Mr Chuvit.
He said information gathered through questioning witnesses, combined with the video clip submitted by Mr Chuvit, was sufficient evidence to suggest the allegations were true.
Pol Gen Sathaphon said the panel had already verified the new video clip and had found traces of recent dismantling inside the building Mr Chuvit said was a casino.
"As such, the Sutthisan police station chief could no longer insist that there had not been such a casino [in the Sutthisan police station's jurisdiction], and he will have to face a disciplinary punishment," said Pol Gen Sathaphon.
More senior police officials were to be summoned for questioning today before the panel could wrap up its investigation and hand a report to national police chief Pol Gen Wichean Potephosree by tomorrow, Pol Gen Sathaphon said.
