Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says she is worried about possible negative impact of the ongoing financial crisis in Europe.
Speaking on her weekly talk show on Saturday morning on NBT, Ms Yingluck admitted that Thailand's export sector would be affected because important trade partners’ economies were in trouble.
Three agencies -- the Finance Ministry, the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) and the Bank of Thailand -- would closely assess the possible direct and indirect impact on the country’s economy, she said.
Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong, also speaking on the talk show, said he believed the impact on the export sector would be minimal because only 10% of Thai products were exported to euro zone markets.
Mr Kittirat said that even if there was a slowdown in exports, the country's economy could be well supported by infrastructure investment from government spending on flood protection, as well as improving domestic consumption.
