The United States' request to use U-tapao naval air base in Rayong province for climate studies and humanitarian relief work was not on today's cabinet meeting agenda, government spokeswoman Sansanee Nakpong said on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra yesterday chaired a meeting in Pattaya to discuss the request with military top brass, Deputy Prime Minister Yutthasak Sasiprapa, Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul.
The armed forces chiefs reportedly had no objection to the request. It was therefore expected the request would be tabled for cabinet consideration today.
Ms Sansanee said the request was not on today's cabinet agenda because the opinions of other security-related agencies on the matter were still needed.
Prime Minister's Office Minister Worawat Ua-apinyakul confirmed the cabinet did not discuss the matter.
