Hidden camera gets editor in trouble

A news editor of a local cable television station is in trouble today for placing cameras not in a news studio, but a company restroom.

He apparently enjoyed watching women employees carry out their own private business.

Thirarat Charoenpakdi, 54, was initially charged with causing embarassment to others after police found video files on his computer of female employees using the editorial office’s toilets.

Police said they found 46 clips of nine women, including a trainee, on his computer.

Five of the women lodged a complaint against him yesterday. The other four are expected to file complaints today.

Police said a male employee in the editorial department became suspicious after finding a camera in the restroom last week. The device, affixed to a sink with tape, had fallen off.

Police said the employee, who was not identified, examined the restroom and found three other hidden cameras.

The employee saw Mr Thirarat leave the restroom with something in his hand and secretly searched his computer and found the clips, police said. The employee then reported what he found to company executives, who informed the police.

Police say the suspect admitted to installing cameras in the restroom, but he implied little harm was done because he did it for himself and had not distributed any of the footage.
