Suranand: PM ready for debate

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is ready for the no-confidence debate planned by the main opposition Democrat Party, says Suranand Vejjajiva, the secretary-general to the Prime Minister's Office.

Mr Suranand said on Saturday that Ms Yingluck was ready to answer all questions to be asked by the Democrats.

The prime minister had called on the main opposition MPs to refrain from playing political games to discredit the government during the censure debate, he added.

The people want to see the opposition monitor the government's performance in a constructive way for the greatest benefit of all Thai people, Mr Suranand quoted Ms Yingluck as saying.

The prime minister, he said, had also reaffirmed her stance that any moves to change the 2007 Constitution and to bring about national reconciliation were matters to be decided by members of parliament, not the government.
