On the local fashion scene, the term "three sisters" refers to none other than the Sukhahuta sisters of the Sretsis empire.
All set to celebrate their 10 years in Thai and international fashion with a show next month, the three siblings - Kly, Pim and Matina - are also giving their fans and friends a treat in the form of a sneak peek into the world of Sretsis.
The gorgeous pocket book Sretsis. Not Another Bedtime Story recounts the tales of fashion's dearest sisters. As the name suggests, it's nothing like an ordinary bedtime story.
To be read from right to left, the Sretsis book looks more like a pop-up story book with text, images and even different paper materials, all juxtaposed in a collage of narratives that, despite woven in almost chronological order, don't read like Sretsis' fashion timeline. Instead it's a big platter of ice-cream decorations, each tasting differently and yet once thrown together onto the scoop, it makes a sweet and sour, fizzy at times, or even weird, dessert with a unique flavour.
The book opens with the quirky page-turning background of the sisters - "So it begins: Sretale by Pongsuang Kunprasop" - where the Dudesweet founder and long-time friend of the brand writes the history of Kly, Pim and Matina in an imaginative tale of the three sisters journeying into various fantasy lands in search of the greatest treasure - beauty - only to discover that beauty lies within their own imagination, awaiting its turn to be recreated into beautiful clothes and accessories.
The book progresses as the brand grows from a small family business (actually, it still is, organically!) into a fashion dreamland of all the girls. Images and texts are thrown together to make a collage of the Sretsis stories - their inspirations, ideas, ideals and the back office behind all the fashionable objects of desire.
The pattern for their proud Julie reversible lace bustier dress is revealed for the first time, along with the step-by-step production process for the finished hand-made piece.
The book also contains visual bits and bobs of Sretsis memorabilia and keepsakes behind, and for, each collection as well as gorgeous sketches of all the inspirations behind the accessories collection of Matina Amanita, completed with captions.
It finishes, in a heart-warming note, with a conversation among Sretsis and their best friends who have been collaborating with the girls, reaffirming that the Sretsis universe is about boundless imagination and bond - not just among sisters but also great friends.
