Bus killing suspects arrested

Two vocational students were arrested in connection with a shooting on a public bus that killed a student of another vocational school, city police chief Khamronwit Thoopkrachang said.

The Metropolitan Police Bureau commissioner said the two suspects, both aged 17, admitted to attacking 16-year-old Phuwadet Ngernrungruang, a student of Phra Ram 6 Technical College.

He said three people were believed to be involved in the attack, which took place on bus No 110 on Thursday at a bus stop in Bang Phlat district.

The suspects are students of Nakhon Luang technical school.

Yae (not his real name) was nabbed at Wat Soi Thong in Bang Pho area and Zac (not his real name) was arrested at an apartment in the same neighbourhood.

The other suspect, identified as Mao, 17, was in hiding in Nakhon Sawan and eventually contacted police to turn himself in, said Pol Lt Gen Khamronwit.

He said the suspects were accompanied by seven others during the attack, but only these three boarded the bus.

The three suspects will be charged with murder.

He said police will investigate to determine if the other seven aided the suspects in their attack.

He said Yae admitted he shot the victim and then threw his weapon into the Chao Phraya River.

Pol Lt Gen Khamronwit said Zac told police that he asked the victim which school he went to, but the boy did not answer.

Police said the suspect also claimed the victim drew a knife, so he responded by drawing his own blade and stabbing the victim twice, throwing the weapon into the river later.

The city police chief said Yae and Zac had a record of illegally possessing and carrying firearms in Bang Phlat.
