Thailand will host the 2013 World Cheerleading Championships, organisers said yesterday.

Setsuo Nakamura, president of the International Federation of Cheerleading (IFC), said Thailand was chosen to organise the world championships in November 2013 because the country had adequate facilities.
The sport has also received support from the public and private sectors, he said.
Also, the Thailand Federation of Cheerleading (TFC) has pushed for development of the sport which is now accepted as a sport, he said.
"Thailand has hosted the Asian Cheerleading Championships for several times. So the IFC believes it will be successful in hosting the 2013 World Cheerleading Championships," Nakamura said.
"More than 50 countries are expected to take part in the event."
TFC chairman Arthit Ourairat said that cheerleading could improve young people's physical and mental fitness.
"We are pleased to support those who are interested in this sport at all levels," he said.
