Drug suspect fled - to prison

NAN – A drug courier who sped through a police checkpoint was chased and arrested while trying to dump methamphetamine tablets in front of the provincial prison, reports said.

Police on Monday seized 1,996 yaba tablets, worth about 500,000 baht, from Apidet Kawinan, 37.

Police said they set up a routine checkpoint on Nan-Ban Luang Road in front of the provincial Immigration Office.

The suspect sped through the checkpoint when police indicated he should stop. He was followed and arrested in front of Nan Prison, when trying to flee his pickup truck and dispose of the drugs.

Police said the suspect had given an “unclear” statement about where he got the drugs from and the delivery point.

Police said they would find out more from the two mobile phones seized from the suspect.
