Practical export growth at 7.23%

Thai trade officers overseas see practical export growth at 7.23% in 2012.

Thai Commercial counsellors and trade ministers stationed in 65 countries see it is more practical for the country's exports this year to achieve 7.23% growth, a new projection set during a meeting in Bangkok on Thursday.

The new figure was revised down from 15% growth target confirmed by Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom.

Several counsellors said it is possible for export shipments to meet the latest goal but it's on the condition that exports for the last five months of the year must reach US$21.37 billion a month minimum. Of that amount, it would draw the country's total export value to $238.67 billion by year-end.

If global economy is getting worse and the export value stays at around the current $18 to $19 billion a month, the growth could go down to only 5% from 2011.
