Among the prestige watchmakers around the world Roger Dubuis stands out, not only for complicated movements and avant-garde designs but also its flights of fantasy.
The world of the Warrior inspired the creation of Excalibur timepieces.
Earlier this year, the Geneva-based brand introduced four imaginary worlds _ Player, Warrior, Venturer and Diva _ all visualised in its new advertising campaign. Each dream-like universe inspires the creation of the 2012 collections: La Monegasque, Excalibur, Pulsion and Velvet.
"Roger Dubuis does not follow trends," said Jean-Marc Pontroue, the new CEO since February. "Our creative people are much more like Apple people. How to be different without being totally out of business is the daily challenge we have to meet."

Making people dream is one of the creative team's task and watch connoisseurs may dream about exploring the world of the Warrior symbolised by a place tucked away in the unforgiving rocks of Ireland where flashes of lightning illuminate a medieval castle while terrifying the wild horses of the valley.
"This kind of storytelling is an essential part of our communication," he said. "It introduces an original scope and vision of the four collections in an atmosphere that manages to be both intimate and grandiose."
Representing an avant-garde spirit, the Excalibur collection comes with the most sophisticated Roger Dubuis movements in platinum, pink gold, white gold or steel cases. Designed for modern-day knights, the new automatic Excalibur 42 is presented in a 42mm case that allows the dial to display its entire dynamic graphics that reinforce the stylised Roman numerals.
In an elegant 36mm case, Excalibur 36 comes with the iconic style codes: the triple-horn strap attachments, the fluted bezel and the highly stylised Roman numerals. With or without diamonds, these versions are mounted on straps of satin or alligator leather.
Inspired by Monte Carlo and its casinos, the world of the Player opens into a luxurious room in a palatial mansion decorated with sculptures and Roman columns. This image is meant to project passion and elegance combined with strong emotions in Roger Dubuis' watchmaking, resulting in La Monegasque models featuring fascinating mechanisms, courageous designs, contemporary lines and unusual forms that stretch the shape of the bezel.
For example, La Monegasque Perpetual Calendar features the latest generation self-winding mechanical movement serving to display the day of the week and the month in two side-by-side apertures, along with the date, the moon phase and the leap year.

Portraying the Pulsion collection, the third visual depicts the world of the Venturer, with the setting echoing spy films and the action taking place in a large library decorated with noble wood, leather and unusual objects. Pulsion watches can be recognised by the unique sapphire crystal screwed directly onto the case and acts as the bezel, allowing the Arabic numerals to be engraved under the crystal and permeated with luminescent material.
Home to Velvet watches, the world of the Diva portrays a misty atmosphere at the foot of a monumental staircase sculpted with terrifying horses, while a door opens to reveal the elegant and passionate Diva. The glamorous models emphasise their graphic dials, altering the form of the cases and transforming the bracelet attachments into precious links.
"The marriage between top of the range watchmaking content and a very strong personality embodied by Excalibur or La Monegasque makes Roger Dubuis different from others in fine watchmaking," said Pontroue. "Additionally, we are the only manufacture whose entire production, for which we have developed 31 calibres, has received the Seal of Geneva."
The 17-year-old brand was founded by master watchmaker, Roger Dubuis and adventurous designer Carlos Dias, who together created extraordinary watches displaying a fine balance of traditional expertise and avant-garde design.
"Since Roger Dubuis' establishment in 1995, the movements have always been at the heart of the company's developments. Their special features and hand finishes are evidence of the exclusive, in-house production," said the CEO. "The ability to produce virtually all components in-house including the spring balance is an assurance of quality, responsiveness and independence."
