Azerbaijan signs Thai spikers

Seven members of the Thai women's volleyball team who won the AVC Cup have signed one-season contracts worth almost 20 million baht in total with an Azerbaijan club.
The contract signing ceremony was held on Friday at the Alexander Hotel in Bangkok.
The seven, who arrived home on Tuesday after beating China in the final on Sunday, were Nootsara Tomkom, Pleumjit Thinkaow, Amporn Hyapha, Malika Kanthong, Onuma Sittirak, Wilavan Apinyapong and Wanna Buakaew.
Among them, Onusa will receive the highest payment of 4.5 million baht for the season, excluding bonus, said Somporn Chaibangyang, president of Thailand Volleyball Association.
The squad will leave for Baku, Azerbaijan to play with Igtisadchi University Volleyball Club early next month for a season which will end in May next year.
The club promised to pay each player an extra 300,000 baht if it wins the Azerbaijani league and more money if it wins the European Volleyball Championship, Mr Somporn said.
