Poll: Majority agree with TRC report

A majority of people agree with the complete report of Truth for Reconciliation Commission (TRC) on the 2010 riots and believe it can be used to restore unity in the country, according to the results of a Suan Dusit Poll revealed on Sunday.

The poll was conducted between Sept 18-22 on 1,084 people in Bangkok and nearby provinces.

The majority, or 53.70%, said they agreed with the report because the TRC had spent a considerable period of time to conduct studies on information, evidence and witnesses concerning what happened during the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship's (UDD) protests in April-May 2010.

However, 46.30% of the respondents did not completely agree with it, saying that the report did not cover every crucial point, particularly the use of violence which led to the deaths of protesters, and the TRC's impartially was questionable.

Slightly more than one half of the respondents believed the report could be used to forge reconciliation.
