With high-performance skincare formulas available, women should have good skin, so why mask it with make-up?

Exquisite second skin.

Beauty guru Apichart Norasethaporn raised this question during the launch of Kanebo's Impress luxurious base make-up system recently held at The Okura Prestige Bangkok.

"Nowadays women invest a lot of money on serum and cream that help them maintain a good skin condition. And with gorgeous skin, instead of tediously covering it with thick make-up, wouldn't it better to reveal it?" the top make-up artist suggested. "Using a make-up base may be enough for those with good skin, whereas foundation can be used for skin that requires coverage."

The latest product range includes a make-up base, cream foundation and loose powder _ all containing skincare ingredients to create Impress "exquisite" skin.

"Make-up products now come with skincare ingredients. That's a good thing because they sustain the skincare benefits throughout the day." he said.

The purpose of the make-up base is to prime the skin in order to maximise and maintain the foundation's finish whereas setting the foundation with loose powder further enhances the make-up's durability.

However, some women skip priming the skin, believing a make-up base would leave the skin oily. Hence the new products come in a refreshing formula for oily skin and a moist texture for dry skin.

The make-up base is spread on to the skin in the same way as applying skincare products, and it will melt into the skin to create an even surface. Pat and press with three fingers to disperse the foundation, which melts at skin temperature to give a smooth second skin. The foundation can then be layered over areas of concern for an even finish.

"Thai women like to put on a lot of powder that makes the skin look dry," noted Apichart. "But after applying foundation, you may not need to use any powder at all in order to get lovely skin with a lustre for a fresh and youthful look."
