Glossy lips are taking an autumn and winter break as the matte look is making a big comeback this season.

Lips are making a big statement on Bobbi Brown’s autumn 2012 look.

"For a while matte lips were considered old-fashioned but for the past two seasons at New York Fashion Week the hottest looks on the runways were wearing really matte lips," said Kai Vinson, Bobbi Brown regional director of artistry. "Women perhaps didn't like the feel of wearing matte lip colour because it felt dry and so they wanted lip glosses. But Bobbi has made it wearable with the new Creamy Matte Lip Color that makes a big statement on the autumn 2012 look."

The make-up artist was in Bangkok last week to demonstrate how to get the modern matte look which employs the latest make-up products, Illuminating Face Base, BB Cream and the collection of matte lipsticks.

"Everything was matte, face, eyes and lips for the '80s matte look," he said. "Bobbi Brown's fall 2012 look is all about lips which is balanced nicely by radiant skin and a pop of sheer colour on the cheeks. Feeling and looking good on your lips, the Creamy Matte Lip Color can stand out on its own to give a modern edgy finish that youre seeing in fashion right now."

Available in 12 shades, the collection includes the fashion-forward Red Carpet and Valencia Orange, as well as the softer nude and pink shades. Vinson's favourite pick is Jenna, a mixture of red, coral and pink that brightens every complexion. For Thai women with a medium skin tone, he recommends Crushed Plum, which further makes the skin look amazing.

"Any woman can wear this look and make it right for them," he said. "Basically they have to choose the right foundation and for this look the new BB cream is available in five shades. Bobbi made sure there's a colour for everyone to match their skin tone."

To create a glowing complexion, first prime the skin with the Illuminating Face Base developed based on Asian women's need for clear and luminous skin. Then apply the multi-functional BB cream with anti-ageing and hydrating ingredients, as well as sun protection and light reflective pearls. Last, use powder to set the BB cream only on the T-zone, to finish off the face make-up.

"The Illuminating Face Base works well with any foundation. It can partner with the BB Cream, which has become an easy-to-use option for Asian women to provide a light to medium coverage. The BB Cream can be used by itself or under foundation such as the liquid foundation for a perfect finish," Vinson said. "Basically, with the make-up base and foundation, we want to make the skin look its best and as natural as we can."
