Chelsea 2, Arsenal 1

Chelsea beat Arsenal 2-1 at Emirates Stadium on Saturday night to stay on top of the Premier League and maintain their unbeaten start to the domestic season.

Fernando Torres (20 minutes) and Juan Mata (53) scored for Roberto Di Matteo’s side, although Arsenal helped as their inability to defend set pieces was exposed for a second weekend.

Gervinho was on target in the 42nd minute for the Gunners, who had lengthy spells of possession but were unable to create enough clear-cut chances as Petr Cech only made two saves of note all match. Aresnal substitute Olivier Giroud hit the woodwork before putting a good opportunity wide in injury time.

It was Arsenal’s first defeat of the campaign, but their Chelsea jinx continues: the Blues are the first team to beat Arsene Wenger’s side three times in a row in the league at the Emirates.
