PACC tells dept to revoke title deeds

The Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) has asked the Land Department to revoke title deeds issued to over 1,000 rai set for a land reform scheme in Cha-am district of Phetchaburi.

Pol Col Dussadee Arayawuthi, on his last day of duty as PACC secretary-general yesterday, said he would send an urgent letter notifying the department of the improper issuance of the deeds.

The land used to be part of the protected Huay Pong Ngam forest. It later became deteriorated forest land and in 1993 was declared a land reform property and handed to the Land Department.

Only landless farmers are given access to the reformed land. They can only carry out farming on the plots.

No part of the land can be sold and no title deeds can be issued.

Pol Col Dussadee said 33 plots spanning over 1,000 rai were divided up and some title deeds were provided to occupants. Most of the reform land in question is owned by two well-known families in Phetchaburi.

Mr Dussadee said some department officials may be involved in the illegal allocation of the land.
