La Lanta Fine Art presents "Mistaken Gear Wheel for Lotus", an installation and mixed media exhibition by Japanese-Thai artist Pornprasert Yamazaki, who is known for his thought provoking, socially critical and satirical artwork.
Mistaken Gear Wheel for Lotus will be on display at La Lanta Fine Art from Saturday to Nov 6. The opening reception is on Saturday at 5pm. The gallery is located on Sukhumvit Soi 31. Call 02-204-0583 or 02-260-5381.
His art expression is never limited to any particular form or medium. His experimental and creative nature allows him to present a body of work that is always fresh and original.
In this show he examines the current social phenomenon where Thais are politically mobilised to believe in certain things and are led to act in certain ways through a huge propaganda machine in order to serve the interest of a small number of individuals.
The exhibition takes its title from a Thai proverb meaning one's ignorance can mistake evil for good.
Through this exhibition, Pornprasert asks fundamental questions. What is true? What is false? What is right? What is wrong? What is real? And what is fake? He believes our society is at the edge of conscience deprivation with the majority of the population having little sense of right or wrong and are only driven by instant material gratification.
