Fraud complaint filed against California WOW

A group of consumers has filed a complaint of fraud with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) against the California WOW fitness club chain.

Disgruntled California WOW members have registered a complaint of fraud at the DSI.

Saree Ongsomwang, secretary-general of the Foundation for Consumers, claimed that the group had been deceived into signing lifetime memberships with the company, even though bosses knew it was in financial difficulty.

The DSI has agreed to assist the group.

Currently, only two California WOW branches remain open in Bangkok, with another in Chiang Mai. The disgruntled members have complained that their local California WOW branches have closed and it is inconvenient for them to travel to the remaining open branches. They also claim that California WOW has ignored requests for refunds.

Ms Saree added that her foundation has received similar complaints from 587 affected members that the company has violated consumer protection laws and used misleading advertising.

The group have previously lodged complaints with the Crime Supression Division, accusing California WOW of fraud.
