Village chief slain in Narathiwat

A village headman was shot dead inside his food and tea shop in Narathiwat’s Rueso district on Wednesday morning, reports said.
Police at Rueso police station received a report of the attack about 7am. Rueso police chief Pol Col Dulayaman Yaena led a joint police and military force to the scene.
They found the dead body of Anand Ahamae, 46, chief of Ban Tapoh in tambon Suwaree of Rueso district. He had been shot six times, with bullets hitting his body and face.
The victim’s wife, Siteeteemoh, 43, told police her husband was selling food at their shop when two men arrived on a motorcycle pretending to be customers. One of them took out a 9mm hand gun. Anand noticed the move and ran into his bedroom to get his shotgun.
The gunman followed and fired at him six times at close range. Anand died on the spot. The attackers stole his shotgun and then fled.
The attack took place in front of a large number of villagers who were out to buy food.
Police blamed separatist militants.
