- Online news:
The October 4 timing of a Nintendo Direct broadcast will see it follow planned downtime for the 3DS's eShop, leading to speculation over possible links to the Wii U launch in November.
The Nintendo 3DS XL is among confirmed subject matter for a Nintendo Direct broadcast.
Timed for 8pm CET (7pm UK time), the broadcast will be delivered live via a dedicated Nintendo Direct webpage as well as via online streaming service Ustream.
What's it going to be about? Nintendo of Europe is keeping quiet on that one, other than confirming the subject matter will be to do with the portable 3DS and its larger sibling, the 3DS XL.
The 3DS's download store, the eShop, is also due a seven-hour period of maintenance from 8pm CET on October 3 to 5am the morning of October 4.
There's nothing concrete to suggest a connection between the eShop downtime and the later Nintendo Direct, though it may preceed the arrival of a new class of content on the store (GameBoy Advance titles, for example), or back-end work to prepare for the arrival of Nintendo's new home console, the Wii U, in November.
