A retired police officer was shot and killed in a ride-by attack in Yala's Raman district on Thursday.

Pol Lt-Col Uthai Thipsopha, the Raman police chief, said the incident took place at about 9.30am on a road at Ban Phomeng village in tambon Kayu Boko, Raman district.

Pol Lt Ingsari Doroning, 53, a retired officer, was returning home on a motorcycle from taking his child to a nursery at Ban Phomeng when he was followed by two men on another motorcycle. The pillion rider opened fire at him with a handgun.

He was hit many times in the head and body and died on the way to Raman Hospital.

Pol Lt Ingsari had just left the police service under an early retirement programme four days ago.
