Gaemi to bring heavy rain

Tropical storm "Gaemi" is expected to unleash heavy rains in some areas of the lower Northeast, Central and upper South from today until Tuesday, the Meteorological Department said in a warning issued at 4.30am on Sunday.

The warning said the storm will make landfall over Cambodia on Sunday night and then downgrade to a depression and move toward Thailand in the direction of Sa Kaew province.

As a result, during Oct 7-8 there will be heavy to very heavy rain in some areas of Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Buri Ram, Nakhon Ratchasima, Phetchabun, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaew, Nakhon Nayok, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Lop Buri, Saraburi,  Suphan Buri, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram and Bangkok.

The rain will also cover Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phetchabun, Chumphon, Ranong, and Phang-nga during Oct 8-9.

The southwest monsoon in the Andaman Sea, the South and the Gulf of Thailand will gain strength. Waves are expected to be 2-3 metres high. Small boats are advised to keep ashore during Oct 7-9.
