Prem's long-time aide steps down

Privy Council President Prem Tinsulanonda has appointed Maj-Gen Pisanu Phutthawong as his new office chief, replacing his long-time close aide who has retired.

After serving as Gen Prem's right-hand man for more than three decades, Adm Pachun Tampratheephas said on Tuesday that Gen Prem had requested that he finally step down, and make way for Maj-Gen Pisanu.

Gen Prem told him he wanted to "return Pachun to his family'', said Adm Pachun, who ended his military career on Sept 30.

Adm Pachun said Gen Prem had only good intentions in asking him to end his service so he could spend time with his family. He also helped his friend at a rubber plantation in Chachoengsao province after retirement, he added.

Despite leaving the Privy Council president's office, he said, his status as Gen Prem's "son"' remains unchanged. He had confidence in his successor, Maj-Gen Pisanu.
