A former teacher charged with defaming a red-shirt activist has publicly defended her actions.

In a video message posted on Youtube, Manasnant Nookham said on Wednesday she had no intention of causing trouble for Darunee Kritboonyalai.

She merely asked Ms Darunee "why did you revile royalty?'', without thinking that the question would generate so much publicity.

The case caught public attention on Sept 25 when her yellow-shirt supporters clashed with supporters of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship in front of the Crime Suppression Division compound after a  meeting between Ms Manasnant's lawyer and police. The clash left a couple of dozen people injured.

Ms Manasnant apologised in the video for the violence, saying that she felt partially responsible and did not want to see it repeated.

She has been working in South Korea since leaving her teaching job in Thailand, she said, and promised to return to Thailand and report to the CSD in December.

Ms Manasnant said that she is concerned that her family might be affected by the incident, even though she did nothing wrong.
