Si Racha in Chon Buri has become a new hot spot for auto events, as two organisers are vying to set up separate events in the eastern province.
Over the last 14 years, the only large motor event held annually in Si Racha was that by the Pacific Park Group, a major property developer in the eastern seaboard area.
The 15th event is scheduled to be organised from Oct 27-Nov 4 at Pacific Park Si Racha shopping mall.
Recently, Inspire Entertainment Co, a subsidiary of Siam Sport Syndicate Plc, announced its plan to host the Thailand Motor Festival, similar to the two major annual motor expos in Bangkok, but the event will be organised in six major provinces across the country at different times throughout the year.
The festival, which starts next year, aims to cash in on the rapid growth of the automobile market and spur the economy upcountry.
The first event will be held in the Northeast, either in Khon Kaen or Nakhon Ratchasima. Hat Yai in Songkhla in the South and Chiang Mai in the North will be the next locations for the festival. The organiser did not identify the location for the festival on the eastern seaboard.
Somboon Vorapanyasakul, Pacific Park Group's managing director, said consumers will have a greater choice if more motor events are held in eastern provinces where purchasing power is quite high.
But he saw no place in the eastern provinces suitable for organising the auto events like Pacific Park Si Racha mall where similar events have been staged for 14 years.
"We are ready to talk with the newcomers about holding similar auto events in this region, be it cooperation or using the facilities in Si Racha," said Mr Somboon.
This year's Pacific Motor Show will also turn 5,000 square metres of Pacific Park Si Racha mall into a car expo venue.
The group set aside a 20-million-baht budget to support the biggest motor event in the eastern region with 22 car and motorcycle brands participating.
The organiser estimates 650 million baht will be generated from 700 car purchases during the nine-day event.
