A policeman was shot and killed in Rangae district of Narathiwat on Thursday.
Pol Lt-Col Somjai Singkliang, the duty officer at Rangae police station, said the attack occurred about 12.55pm on a road in Ban Tanyonglimo in Rangae district.
While Pol Sgt Thammarong Kongram, 33, of Cho Airong police station, was returning on a motorcycle from business at Tanyongmas Municipality he was followed by two men on another motorcycle who opened fire at him while passing the village.
The policeman was hit five times in the head and body. He died on the spot.
The attackers took his 9mm pistol and fled.
