Police refuse to reshuffle Supat investigators

Police say they will not change the investigative team probing the multiple murder case involving former police doctor Supat Laohawattana.

Deputy national police chief Pansiri Prapawat said the team was established as a formal committee headed by Pol Maj Gen Withaya Prayongphan, a deputy chief of the Provincial Police Region 7.

Pol Maj Gen Suthipong Wongpin, chief of the regional police's investigation division, and Pol Maj Gen Peerachart Ruenroeng, chief of the Phetchaburi police, serve as deputies to Pol Maj Gen Withaya on the committee, said Pol Gen Pansiri.

He was responding to a call by Ake Laohawattana, Pol Col Supat Laohawattana's son, to change the police investigators handling the murder case.

Mr Ake claimed his father was being treated unfairly by the current team of investigators.

Crime Suppression Division police as well as assistant national police chief Jarumporn Suramanee are also working closely with the main investigation team.

If Mr Ake had information that any particular police investigators were unfair to the suspect, he could file a complaint against them, Pol Gen Pansiri suggested.

In Phetchaburi, police searched an area of Pol Col Supat's orchard where married couple Samart Noomjui and Orasa Kerdsap were last seen sawing logs before their disappearance three years ago.
