Priewpan to join Pheu Thai Monday

Former police chief Priewpan Damapong will officially apply for membership of the Pheu Thai Party on Monday, party spokesman Prompong Nopparit said.

Mr Prompong said Pol Gen Priewpan would be received on arrival at the party's headquarters by Pol Lt-Gen Viroj Pao-in, the acting party leader, at about 1.30pm.

At about 9.30am on Monday morning the Pheu Thai Party will hold a press conference to introduce 23 new members who were Class 10 graduates of the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School.

They include Adm Rungrat Boonyarattaphan, former defence permanent secretary, Gen Apichart Timsuwan, former director of the National Defence Industry and Energy Centre, Gen Sahachart Pipitkul, former chief of the army's Medical Department, and Pol Lt-Gen Thanakorn Siri-ath, former chief of the Special Branch.

Mr Prompong said these former military and police officers would further strengthen and consolidate the party.

Pol Gen Priewpan was a highly qualified person who could comfortably take the party leadership or a cabinet post, the spokesman said.
