SI SA KET - Villagers in this northeastern province on Sunday discovered more than 10,000 statues and images of Lord Buddha that are about 1,000 years old.
The ancient religious items were found in the middle of a forest in Si Sa Ket's Kantharalak district.
Luang Por Somsak Sirithammo, the abbot of the Srapang Thong temple, said he and a group of villagers initially planned to build a dhamma retreat in the forest.
Some villagers accidentally discovered the statues and artifacts while they were chopping down trees to build a pavilion, he said.
The abbot said the temple will build a room to protect them and allow people to worship them.
