Missing witness in Supat case found

Police have located a key witness in the missing couple case, a Myanmar man who used to work in the orchard of Supat Laohawattana, a former doctor at the Police General Hospital and suspect in the disappearance of the couple in Phetchaburi province three years ago.

Pol Col Pichai Pokpong, superintendent of Tha Mai Ruak police station in Phetchaburi's Tha Yang district, and a team went to Mae Sot district of Tak province. He said his team located one of two Myanmar workers who used to work in Dr Supat's orchard in Phetchaburi on Monday morning.

The two had left and then returned to Thailand to work in Mae Sot district. Police had managed to track down only one of them so far. His name was withheld.

Pol Col Pichai said at a preliminary questioning the witness gave useful information in the case. He would be questioned further. The police team would then return to Phetchaburi, but would not take the witness with them for safety reasons.

The witness had promised not to return to Myanmar because he wanted to reveal what had happened at the orchard in Phetchaburi, and ensure justice for other Myanmar workers who had lost their lives there, Pol Col Pichai said.

The witness said he did not know the whereabouts of the other witness.
