About 500 nurses gathered outside Government House on Tuesday morning, demanding the government employ them as permanent officials.

The nurses wanted the government to fulfill its promise of offering more than 3,600 positions with full state benefits.

About four months ago, Public Health Minister Witthaya Buranasiri pledged to hire them at hospitals under his ministry's control by the end of this fiscal year but so far not a single one of them has been employed.

The group said that if their plea was not heard, they will submit a petition to the nurse affairs committee at the parliament.

Their gathering took up a traffic lane, causing some traffic congestion in the area.
