District police chief killed in Sukhothai

The superintendent of Si Samrong district police in Sukhothai province was shot and killed by his subordinate on Wednesday morning.

Pol Maj-Gen Rangsan Kochakrai, the Sukhothai police chief, said Pol Col Thanatpong Prasertsiripapha was shot by Pol Lt-Col Jakrarom Thoopjaem, the crime suppression chief of the station, about 9am while in his office at the police station.

Pol Col Thanatpong was seriously wounded. He was rushed to the district hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Pol Lt-Col Jakrarom, after the shooting, left the police station in his car and was later seriously injured in a road accident.

Pol Maj-Gen Piya Uthayo, the police spokesman, said Pol Lt-Col Jakrarom had been arrested.  The incident was being investigated.

A preliminary report to the Royal Thai Police Office said Pol Lt-Col Jakrarom was rebuked by Pol Col Thanatpong on Tuesday night for being drunk while on duty.
