SRT to halt unprofitable services

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT)is planning to terminate six unprofitable services to plug annual losses of 136 million baht.

SRT deputy governor Viroj Triampongpan, who is acting governor, said on Thursday the state railway would start cutting the unprofitable round trip services on Nov 1. This would save the SRT approximately 136 million baht per year in operating costs.

It would also improve other services as the locomotives and carriages would be redistributed to other money-making services, he said.

The following round trip services will be cancelled: Special Express (air-conditioned) 11/10 Bangkok-Chiang Mai-Bangkok; Express 115/116 Bangkok-Phitsanulok-Bangkok; and Express 143-144 Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani-Bangkok.
