The Thailand Retail, Food & Hospitality Services 2012 (TRAFS) _ the largest food, hotel and retail show in Thailand _ will take place at Bitec on Bang Na-Trat Road from Thursday to Sunday.
TRAFS is Thailand’s largest food, hotel and retail show. This year’s event will showcase more than 300 brands of products from 100-plus international companies.
"On show at this year's event are more than 300 brands of food service equipment, ingredients, drinks and related products from over 100 companies around the world," said Kavin Kittiboonya, managing director of Kavin Intertrade, the organiser of the show. "About 28,000 buyers who include hoteliers and hospitality professionals have already registered for the show, which is also open to the general public."
Displayed products range from those for hotel guest rooms (mattresses, bed sheets, linen, bathroom amenities) to kitchen equipment for chefs and pastry chefs, items for food and beverages (tableware, wine and other drinks, coffee machines), cleaning equipment and supplies for housekeepers and laundry outlets as well as the newest software and hardware for restaurants, and hotel reservation systems.
"The four-day event also features interesting activities to provide maximum benefits to visitors and buyers including the Tableware Showcase, the Mega Masterclasses on Food & Bakery and culinary and hotelier competitions," added Kavin.
The Tableware Showcase features the latest collections from around the world and the newest IT software and hardware for restaurants as well as indoor and outdoor furniture. Hoteliers and buyers will have the chance to get a close look at all these products before placing orders. The Mega Masterclasses on Food & Bakery features six chefs from the Thailand Culinary Academy who will demonstrate six menus _ fine dining cuisine, whole culture around tea, best Western cuisine, delicious trendy rice desserts, macaroon/mousse cake, and sugar-free bakery.
Recipes for each will be made available to bakers, chefs and visitors attending the workshops.
The culinary and hotelier competitions are held in eight categories _ three for chefs (best modern Thai cuisine, best Western cuisine, best junior chef), two for pastry chefs (cake decoration, plate desserts), and one each for F&B and housekeepers (fancy due bartender and honeymoon bed setting).
The competitions are organised in cooperation with the Thailand Culinary Academy and the Thai Chefs' Association. Winners in the chef categories will represent Thailand in overseas contests.
More than 300 hoteliers from three related associations _ Front Office Managers Alliance, Les Clefs d'or Thailand (Concierge) and the Executive Housekeepers Association of Thailand _ will also have their monthly meetings during TRAFS 2012.
The objectives are to gather and exchange information and knowledge in preparation for the upcoming Asean Economic Community in 2015.
"Demand for new equipment and ingredients and food and drinks in Thailand has risen significantly this year in line with the springing up of new hotels and food service outlets as a result of a strong increase in international tourist arrivals which are expected to top 20 million this year," said Kavin. "So, TRAFS 2012 is a must-visit event for hoteliers and food service providers, those looking to invest in food and beverage businesses, as well as interested members of the public."
TRAFS 2012 will be held alongside Thailand Franchise & Business Opportunities 2012, the largest franchise show in Asean. More than 130 Thai and international franchise brands from nine countries will be offered to investors. Investment budgets for franchises start at 100,000 baht for a Thai one to more than 5 million baht for a famous franchise from overseas.
