Garuda Indonesia and Etihad Airways in new code-sharing agreement

Indonesia’s national carrier Garuda Indonesia and Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways have signed a new code-sharing agreement, reported travel website TTGAsia this week.

The deal, subject to regulatory approval, will see Etihad place its EY code on Garuda’s services from Jakarta to Denpasar (Bali) and Kuala Lumpur from October 28.

Garuda Indonesia will also place its GA code on Etihad’s flights from Jakarta to three African, seven Middle Eastern, 13 European and three North American destinations. The carrier will also switch its stopover on the Jakarta-Amsterdam route from Dubai to Abu Dhabi starting from December this year.

“The partnership with Garuda Indonesia will contribute to Etihad Airways’ efforts in expanding its network and its South-east Asian presence,” James Hogan, president & CEO, Etihad Airways, told the website.

The agreement is Etihad Airways’ forty-second codeshare and Garuda Indonesia’s eleventh.

Garuda Indonesia is a full-service carrier serving 32 domestic and 18 international destinations and has a fleet of 94 aircraft, while Etihad currently serves 86 passenger and cargo destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and North America, with a fleet of 67 aircraft.
