Cabbie charged with abusing girl, 14

Police have arrested a Bangkok taxi driver for allegedly sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl and possessing drugs.

Officials from the Anti-Human Trafficking Division (AHTD) raided Sahai Sahakij Hotel in Pomprap Sattruphai district late on Thursday morning after a someone informed them that an underage girl may have been lured there by a taxi driver.

They found Sakhon Sasitha, 37, from Roi Et province, with the girl in a room with drug paraphernalia.

They arrested him on charges of taking a girl under the age of 15 from her parents, sexually abusing a girl under 15 and possessing drugs.

AHTD commander Chavalit Sawangpuad said Mr Sakhon’s urine test had shown a positive result for drugs.

Mr Sakhon told police that he went to buy sex in front of the hotel more than a month ago and met two teenage girls he later learned were sisters. He paid 400 baht for sex with the younger girl when her sister was arrested by police on a drug charge shortly after.

He claimed the girl said she did not know what to do, nor did she want to go home. She said she would wait for her sister. He then rented a room at the hotel with her.

He denied he forced the girl into taking drugs while staying with him, saying she was already a user.

According to police he confessed to buying the drugs in the Ratchathewi area and said he only gave some to the girl because she requested it.

Mr Sakhon had been arrested several times since 1993 on charges relating to drugs, theft, obstructing government officials doing their job, and gambling, according to police.

He was released from prison last year after completing a sentence for drug offences, Pol Maj Gen Chavalit said.
