NACC to probe 3G auction

The National Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday accepted for consideration five petitions asking that it establish whether the 3G spectrum auction was in violation of the Anti-Price Collusion Act of 2009, commissioner Klanarong Chanthik said.

Mr Klanarong said the petitions all asked the anti-graft agency to look into the transparency of the 3G auction held by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC).

The NACC would first take up for consideration the one submitted by the Senate committee on corruption and  good governance.

The NACC on Thursday considered the five petitions and decided it has the jurisdiction under the law to investigate the 3G auction. It set up an inquiry subcommittee chaired by commissioner Pakdi Phosiri to carry out the investigation.

Members of the subcommittee were expected to be named next week, Mr Klanarong said.
