A haunted house in a theme park usually involves walking around a fixed route waiting to be "spooked" but Bloody Hospital Begin in Chokchai 4 is a different story. There, you get to stumble your way through dark mazes, try to solve a mystery, and have the Buddha scared out of you by zombies, crazy doctors and female ghosts in the flesh.
We sent two intrepid Guru writers - Pornchai and Kaona - to face the ghosts together (because they drew the short straws and were too afraid to go alone). Here's the gist of their spooky experience.
Pornchai: Let me start by saying that I screamed like a girl many times during our unfortunate visit to Bloody Hospital Begin. I'm not ashamed of it. That's the point of going into such a place, right Kaona?

Kaona: Unlike Pornchai, I was truly the pillar of strength and bravery the whole time we were in there. Well, not really. I screamed (in a manly way) many times but his shrieks were definitely louder.
P: I can't help it. I choose to walk on the road when I see a soi dog sleeping on the footpath to avoid it. If you're easily scared like me, your fear would build even before you enter the haunted area. They have turned a deserted movie theatre into a fake hospital. Who knows what real incidents might have happened there? They don't turn on as many lights as I would like them to in the waiting area either. That's why I forced, well, asked Kaona to lead us.
K: They gave us a small flashlight and a rope to hold so we didn't get separated in the dark. It was the scared leading the scared. I jumped when a guy suddenly popped out of the darkness to direct us to a room where we watched the intro video, the story of a ghost the haunted hospital is based on. She was a victim of an acid attack and died at the hospital. More people died there afterwards and we're here to find out who the killer is.
P: After the video ended, I thought to myself, "This is a very bad idea." I couldn't deal with one ghost, let alone a hospital full of them. There was a gurney at the back of the room that I kept looking at, thinking a ghost would jump out after the video stopped. Luckily, that didn't happen but what awaited us after was worse.

K: It isn't your average haunted house experience because while we had to get away from the ghosts we had to look for three items
in three zones. If you get them all, you solve a mystery and win a T-shirt. You should have seen Pornchai's face during the brief. He was so pale I knew he wouldn't have survived without me.
P: Oh shut up, you. I wasn't always a coward. Towards the end of the first zone, we did get a piece of human flesh because of me. I snatched it from the hand of a zombie.
K: Yeah, you did. It was a brave moment until you resumed screaming.
P: I guess my fear of being there for another minute outweighed my fear of coming in close contact with a zombie.
In the second zone or autopsy room, we needed to locate a syringe from a doctor. You bet there are a lot of body parts lying around. What a nice stroll we had through the wall decorated with severed legs.
We finally arrived at a doctor's office. He was sitting on a filing cabinet with his back to us and I wanted nothing to do with him. This time Kaona was brave enough to poke him and get the syringe.

The last zone is the patient ward where we were supposed to find a bottle of serum. I think we both froze when we met a girl in a wheelchair. Indeed, she was the leading lady of this entire bloody scenario.

K: Oh, I hate her. She was so still at first, but once we walked past her, she started to roll around and chased us like a wheelchair Paralympian.
Get chased by zombies, ghost girls and crazy doctors
P: I remember it differently. You made small talk with her, you little flirt.
K: No, I did not! I just wanted to know if she was a dummy or a real person.
P: To be fair, she was the least decayed body in there. I knew what was coming but I couldn't contain the frightened little girl in me. We didn't get the serum because I think we were more interested in getting the hell out than winning the T-shirt.
