As November rolls around, we look at seven exciting, intriguing and ambitious Kickstarter art projects -- from a free public art initiative based in Chicago to performance art devoted to tea drinking in India and large print artworks based on complex mathematical theory.

Midnight Tea in Mumbai

After five previous Midnight Tea art rituals around the world, a group of twelve poets, designers, photographers and performers are to work with a Mumbai art collective for a 12-hour art performance to start at midnight, December 22.

The Free Art Machine

Plastering selected locations with free installations, public art experiment the Free Art Machine gathers images sent in by site visitors for its thousands of photo blocks. The project starts in Chicago, with its organizers looking for more hosts from around the world.

Kibera Walls for Peace! Youth Mural Project: Nairobi, Kenya
Ends: Thursday, November 8
With one eye on the Kenyan presidential election in 2013, this public art project is to unite a cohort of 30 youth from the Kibera slum as they learn about peace-building and produce five murals that promote peace and understanding between the city's distinct communities.

Inspiring Creatively: The Art Basel Project

Nicholai Khan, having already been invited to display at the Miami leg of prestigious art festival Art Basel (and following the successful Art Basel Miami fundraiser of multimedia artist David Alvarez), seeks further funding to cover costs relating to artwork creation and transportation, representation and wall space fees.

Don Quixote: 91 Paintings In 91 Days!

Three months' worth of Don Quixote paintings might seem like a mad project, but it is a fitting quest considering Michael Wilson's proposed subject, the enigmatic man of La Mancha.

Send Grandma to Poland!

Eighty-year-old fiber artist Marilyn Henrion, whose work features at New York's Museum of Art and Design, has been invited to participate in the International Tapestry Triennial in Lodz, Poland, next year. With enough backers' help, she'll be able to ship her work for the six-month exhibition and join it for a ten-day tour.

Put a War Bird on Your Wall

Neuroscientist and experimental artist Robert Jansen is readying a large format printing project based on huge, high-resolution images gleaned from chaos theory. All backers receive hi-res files which they can then take to a professional printer of their choice.

Kickstarter is a crowd-funding platform for creative projects -- everything from traditional forms of art (like theater and music) to contemporary forms (like design and games). Backers pledge funds for proposed projects; funds are transferred should the project reach its funding goal within a given timespan.
