High-tech car thieves busted

Police have arrested two car thieves who used technology to copy remote-control codes, allowing them to unlock vehicles without having to break in.

Officers from Pan Thong police station arrested Suchart Rodhongthong, 36, and Saengphet Saengarun, 27 at a house in Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan province.

The police found a stolen white Toyota van, a black BMW, a grey Isuzu pickup, two motorcycles and many pieces of auto parts. The seized items had a combined value of several million baht.

Both men admitted that they had stolen all the automobiles and parts found on the premises, officers said.

Pol Maj Gen Katcha Thatsart, commander of the Chon Buri Provincial Police, said the pair used high-tech equipment to steal cars, so owners using remote controls to lock their cars should be careful.

Police traced the duo after a man reported his van stolen on Thursday night. Later that night they found the van parked at the suspects' house.
