Poll: Rally won't lead to a coup

A plurality of people agree the planned next rally by the Pitak Siam Group and its networks will lead not to a coup, and a majority also do not think the government can be pressured into resigning, according the results of a poll conducted by the National Institute for Development Administration, or Nida Poll, released on Monday.

The pollster surveyed 1,245 people throughout the country for their opinions about the Pitak Siam Group and the chance of the government being ousted on Oct 31 and Nov 1.

The largest single group of respondents, 42.25%, did not think the rally would lead to a coup because not enought people would take part in it, while 20.40% thought it could lead to that and 37.35% were uncertain.

A majority, 53.73%, believed the Pitak Siam Group would not be able to pressure the government to resign. Only 15.90% thought it could do so, while the rest had no comment.

A majority, 61.93%, of the respondents believed there were political groups behind Pitak Siam, 10.92% did not think so, and the rest were uncertain.
