Tefal touts 'healthy' deep fryer

Groupe SEB (Thailand) Co, the distributor of Tefal small home appliances from France, expects to become the leader in the local 5-billion-baht kitchenware market within the next four years.

Country manager Suwasit Wittayawijug said Tefal entered Thailand eight years ago, providing small home appliances and kitchenware items.

"When people think of Tefal, they always think of irons. We want to change this perception and introduce more healthy items," he said.

The newest product is the Tefal ActiFry deep fryer, which uses less oil.

Thailand was chosen to be the first Asian country to offer the ActiFry, as it is among the continent's top three markets for Tefal products.

"We're focusing more on the Thai kitchenware market to serve changing consumer lifestyles, as more people are cooking at home, inspired by food shows on TV," said Mr Suwasit.

He said Tefal has made a considerable investment in developing new cooking technologies to meet the nutritional values demanded by today's consumers and enable them to cook their favourite dishes with almost no oil or fat.

The company expects 2% of Thailand's 20 million households will have an ActiFry within a few years.

Mr Suwasit added that Tefal sales have increased by 65% year-to-date, better than expected.
