Panties thief admits to rape, murder

CHIANG MAI – Police have arrested the suspect in the rape and murder of a university student in her home on Monday night, reports said.

Police said the body of Prachayaporn (surname withheld), 28, was found naked with her hands tied and several stab wounds to her body. She died from strangulation, police said.

According to police, her killer entered through an air duct that leads to the ceiling of her one-storey house. The rapist also  stole an iPhone, a notebook computer, wallet, a gold chain and a diamond ring.

The victim's next door neighbour alerted police. He said the victim’s boyfriend contacted him, saying he could not get in touch with her, so he went to her house and found her body.

Police said questioning the victim's neighbours had led to the arrest of a suspect. They said a thief had been stealing women's underwear in neighborhood. The robbery victims suspected a man who also lived in the area.

Police then visited the home of the 32-year-old suspect, identified as Phasakron. They noticed he had several scratches on his face and neck.

According to police, the suspect admitted to the rape and murder of the woman. He said he broke into her house to steal her underwear, but he saw her sleeping naked on her bed so he raped her.

He said he had to kill her because she was crying out for help, police said.

A video of the attack was on the victim’s phone, which was found at the suspect’s house. He said he recorded the video to watch it later.

He said he sold the rest of the victim’s belongings that he stole. Police also found a collection of women's  underwear in his house.
