The red-shirts would welcome a decision by the Matchima group to join hands with the Pheu Thai Party, Korkaew Pikulthong, a co-leader of United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), said on Wednesday.
The UDD co-leader was responding to a report that Somsak Thepsuthin, leader of the Matchima group, had talks about returning to Pheu Thai during a dinner with former prime minister Somchai Wongsawat and his wife, Yaowapa, at a restaurant in Bangkok on Tuesday.
Mr Korkaew, a Pheu Thai list MP, said the red-shirt people would also welcome members of the Bhumjaithai Party led by Anuthin Charnveerakul, but would never accept members of Newin Chidchob group.
He urged other political groups to join hands with Pheu Thai and leave the Democrats alone to wonder why.
Interior Minister and Pheu Thai leader Charupong Ruangsuwan said on Wednesday that the discussion was a good and democratic. He welcome the fact that core members of political camps had publicly met.
He had no idea what was discussed, but considered it as a good development.
Mr Charupong said the acceptance of any political group to jointly work with Pheu Thai rests with the decision of the party's meeting.
The minister said he used to work with Mr Somsak when he was labour minister and was confident he could work with him again.
