NAKHON SI THAMMARAT - Police seized 1,252 kilogrammes of marijuana from two drug dealers in Nakhon Si Thammarat's Tham Phannara district on Thursday.

Pol Lt Gen Yongyuth Charoenwanit of Tham Phannara station said police at a traffic checkpoint found 519kg of marijuana, with an estimated street value of more than 32 million baht, in two pickup trucks.

The suspects who drove the pickup trucks were named as Samran Pankaew-ngao, aged 37, and Chinnakorn Tone-si, 30.

The two men told investigators that they were paid 20,000 baht each to deliver the drugs from the Thai-Lao border to the southern provinces of Phatthalung and Songkhla.

The two said their drug ring stored the marijuana in a large warehouse in Songkhla's Hat Yai district. The drugs would then be transported to Malaysia.

Police later discovered 733kg of marijuana in the warehouse.
